The Jibia Emirate has a rich history, deeply rooted in the traditions and governance of Katsina. The town of Jibia, located near the Nigerian-Niger border, has evolved significantly since its establishment during the Dallazawa period.
Historically, Jibia served as an administrative center, with its significance growing under various leaders, including the Emir of Katsina Muhammadu Dikko, who recognized its potential for recreation and hunting in the early 20th century.
The Jibia kingdom began with Gatari Duma in 1909, followed by his son Gatari Ibrahim, who contributed to the town’s development by relocating the market and establishing the first medical clinic. The current Emir, Alhaji Rabe Rabi’u Ibrahim, has continued this legacy since 2010.
The Jibia Emirate encompasses several towns, including Zandam and Bugaje, which have historical ties and play crucial roles in trade, livestock, and agriculture. The Jibia Market remains one of the major trading hubs in Katsina State, facilitating commerce between Nigeria and Niger.
Through its leadership and historical significance, the Jibia Emirate has been instrumental in the community’s development, fostering growth in trade and agriculture while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
