The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, turbaned Hon. Hamza Sulaiman Faskari as the first Sadaukin Kasar Hausa. The event, held at the Emirate Palace, attracted a large crowd of supporters from across the country, eager to celebrate this historic achievement.
The Emir praised Hon. Sulaiman for his unwavering dedication to community service, particularly his efforts to uplift the mases in Katsina State. He stated, “I hate money; if you want to impress me, then help the mases, and you will be the one who makes them happy. I will also be the one who shares in this happiness more than him,” highlighting the values that underpin the new title.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the title “Sadauki” has deep historical roots in Hausa culture, traditionally awarded to high-ranking officials who demonstrated exceptional military or leadership skills. The term translates to “skilled warrior” or “skilled soldier,” reflecting the esteemed position of Sadauki holders in Hausa kingdoms, especially during times of conflict.
Historically, the Sadauki title gained prominence during the Fulani jihad, where its holders played crucial roles in national defense and military leadership. Hon. Sulaiman’s appointment as the first Sadaukin Kasar Hausa signifies a modern interpretation of this prestigious title, linking it to community service and leadership.
Hamza Sulaiman Faskari, born on February 18, 1979, in Faskari Local Government Area, has a commendable track record in public service. He began his career as an Administrative Officer at the Federal Character Commission and later served as a Special Assistant to Senator Abu Ibrahim.
As a dedicated public servant, Hon. Sulaiman has held various commissioner roles, including Commissioner for Water Resources and Commissioner for Environment in Katsina State. His tenure has seen significant projects, such as the National Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) and the ACRACEL World Bank project.
His contributions to environmental development have earned him numerous accolades, including the ICON Leadership Award in 2021 for his efforts in combating desertification and the Gold Medal Award for Good Governance in 2019 from the Pan-African Good Governance Council. Additionally, he has been recognized for his philanthropic efforts, distributing over N25 million to local communities.
The momentous ceremony held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, was attended by prominent figures, including the Governor of Katsina, Malam Dikko Radda, and the Governor of Jigawa State, Namadi. Former Governor of Katsina, Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari, and other key officials, such as the Deputy Governor of Katsina, HE Faruk Jobe, were also present to honor Hon. Sulaiman.
Other attendees included the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Nasir Yahaya Daura, and Senator Muntari Dandutse of Funtua Zone, along with various members of the Katsina State House of Assembly and local government officials.
