Katsina Police Foil Kidnapping Attempt, Rescue Ten Victims

The Katsina State Police Command successfully rescued ten individuals along the Funtua to Gusau highway on April 19, 2025.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the operation took place after armed bandits ambushed two vehicles, intending to abduct their occupants.

According to a press release from DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the Police Public Relations Officer, the Faskari Division received information about the ambush around 9:35 PM. The vehicles involved, a black Golf Saloon and an ash-colored Golf, were traveling from Katsina to Faskari when the attack occurred. Upon receiving the alert, a patrol team was mobilized to the scene.

The police engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to flee into the nearby bush and abandoning their kidnapping mission. All ten victims, which included two drivers and eight passengers, were rescued unharmed. Authorities are currently working to apprehend the fleeing suspects as the investigation continues.

Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu commended the officers for their professionalism and quick action, which he noted was crucial in saving lives. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Katsina State Command to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. Further updates on the situation will be provided as they become available.
