Kaduna APC Unfazed by El-Rufai’s Defection to SDP

The Kaduna chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed indifference to the defection of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

This comes after El-Rufai announced his resignation from the APC on Monday, citing disappointment with the party’s leadership style.

According to Yahaya Pate, Secretary of the Kaduna State chapter of the APC, the party remains focused on delivering Kaduna State to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in 2027. “We are unperturbed by former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s defection to another party,” Pate stated.

El-Rufai’s defection was reportedly triggered by the party leaders’ unwillingness to address certain issues he had raised. The former governor expressed his commitment to progressive values, stating that his eight-year tenure in Kaduna State was devoted to implementing policies that advanced human development.

However, El-Rufai lamented that his records counted for little in the current APC, which he claimed had strayed from its founding ideals. He accused the party of disregarding internal democracy and treating its membership with contempt.

Despite El-Rufai’s departure, the Kaduna APC remains confident in its ability to deliver the state to President Tinubu and Governor Sani in 2027. Pate emphasized that the party is growing daily

The APC’s leadership style has been a subject of controversy, with some members expressing dissatisfaction with the party’s direction. El-Rufai’s defection may be seen as a significant blow to the party, but the Kaduna APC appears determined to move forward.

As the political landscape continues to shift, the Kaduna APC’s ability to adapt and maintain its support base will be crucial in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
