Katsina House of Assembly Reviews 11 Local Governments’ Budgets in 3 Days

The Katsina State House of Assembly’s Committee on Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs has commenced a review of the budgets of 11 local governments in the state. Led by Hon. Ibrahim Danjuma Machika, the committee aims to track the budget of all 34 local governments to ensure they align with the needs of the people and the state’s policies.

The review, which began on Monday, February 24, 2025, covered local governments such as Mani, Sabuwa, Kankia, and Dandume. On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the committee reviewed the budgets of Kurfi, Danja, and Rimi local governments. The following day, Kafur, Funtua, Ingawa, and Mashi local governments underwent the review process.

During the first session of the budget review, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, emphasized the parliament’s efforts to ensure the budget is prepared according to the rules for the well-being and welfare of the people of Katsina state. The speaker’s remarks underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in the budgeting process.

Hon. Ibrahim Danjuma Machika, chairman of the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Committee, stated that the committee will ensure the budgets of the local governments align with the needs of the people and consider policies to move Katsina state forward. This commitment to responsible governance is crucial for the state’s development.

The budget review workshop was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Local Government Services, the Kingdom, and the Pension Board for Local Government Employees. This collaborative approach ensures that all stakeholders are involved in the budgeting process, promoting a more inclusive and effective governance framework.
