Sheikh Yakubu Musa Receives Honorary Doctorate Degree

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) Katsina State Chapter, Sheikh Yakubu Musa Hassan Katsina, has been honored with an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the European-American University.

The ceremony took place at the Open University auditorium in Katsina, Nigeria, on Tuesday, 26 Sha’aban, 1446 (equivalent to February 25, 2025).

Sheikh Katsina, also known as Sautus-Sunnah, has made significant contributions to Islamic education, jurisprudence, and social reform in Nigeria. Born in 1947 in Gwaram town, Jigawa state, he demonstrated exceptional talent and commitment to Islamic studies from an early age. He memorized the Qur’an and became proficient in various fields of Islamic knowledge, including Fiqh, Tauheed, and Sirah.

Sheikh Yakubu’s academic achievements include studying at the Arabic and Islamic Teachers Training College in Katsina, where he was awarded the Student of the Year award in 1983. He also obtained a Diploma in Islamic Law from Katsina Polytechnic. His leadership roles include serving as Chairman of the National Board of Trustees of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) and Director of the Da’wah Committee.

The honoring of Sheikh Katsina is a testament to his dedication to Islamic education and community development. He has established several schools in Katsina, including Riyadhul Qur’an Islamic School and Sautus Sunnah International Comprehensive Schools, which have produced many teachers and professionals in West Africa.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that Sheikh Yakubu’s work has had a profound impact on the Muslim community in Nigeria and beyond. He has been recognized as one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world from 2019 to 2024 by the Jordan Institute of Islamic Studies.

In his remarks after receiving the honorary doctorate degree, Sheikh Katsina expressed gratitude to God and thanked the Presidents of the Association of State and Local Governments, relatives, and friends who attended the ceremony.
