Hon. Sada Soli, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kaita/Jibia LGs constituency from Katsina state, criticized the tax reform bills proposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming they were poorly advised and inadequately drafted.
In an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Soli expressed his concerns regarding the tax reform bills, stating that the North supported the legislation in the interest of Nigeria. He emphasized that the bills did not undergo the necessary professional drafting process, which he believes undermines their effectiveness.
Soli remarked, “Let us be fair to Mr. President. For a President to take a decision, he has to rely on certain advice. I think the president was poorly advised.” He pointed out that the drafts referred to the bills as acts, indicating a lack of professionalism in their preparation.
While criticizing the bills, Soli acknowledged President Tinubu’s political acumen, stating, “He is an inclusive politician.” He noted that the President sought input from various stakeholders, including governors and members of the House, to ensure the bills were thoroughly examined before any final decisions were made.
Soli concluded by asserting that the President’s willingness to engage in discussions about the bills demonstrates his commitment to addressing potential issues, highlighting the importance of proper legislative processes in the formulation of tax reforms.
