A political shift occurred in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina state as 1,800 supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This development took place during the Flag-Off meeting of councilorship candidates in Jibia LGA.
Hon. Sirajo Ado, the APC chairmanship candidate for Jibia local government, expressed his readiness to unite with the defectors under the leadership of Hon. Idris Yakubu Dan Chaffa. Sirajo Ado acknowledged the progress made by the APC in Jibia Local Government and thanked the organizers of the Flag-Off occasion.
Katsina State Member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Mustafa Yusuf, described the meeting as a testament to the APC’s widespread support. He reminded the attendees that the outcome of the upcoming local government elections is appearing.
The chairman of Jibia local government, Hon. Bishir Sabi’u Maitan, endorsed Sirajo Ado as his successor and urged the community to vote for him. Alhaji Kabiru Manshe, Legislative Aide to Hon. Sada Soli, expressed gratitude to those who contributed to Sirajo Ado’s election campaign.
Alhaji Bala Abu Musawa, deputy chairman of the APC in Katsina state, emphasized the importance of unity among APC leaders in Jibia local government. He welcomed the defectors and assured them of the APC’s support in contributing to the development of local residents.
The occasion, which took place on January 29, 2025, was attended by notable figures, including Hon. Sa’idu Ibrahim Danja ‘Kogunan Jibia’ and Alhaji Nasiru Hussaini One-Boy. The APC party flags were presented to councilorship candidates from 11 wards, including Farfaru, Yangaiya, Jibia A, Jibia B, Mazanya, Mallamawa, Faru, Bugaje, Gangara, Riko, and Kusa Ward.
The defection of 1,800 PDP supporters to the APC is a significant development in Jibia LGA’s political landscape. As the local government elections approach, the APC’s growing support base may impact the outcome.
