3,000 people defect from APC to NDC in Katsina

At least 3,000 members of the APC have defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Katsina State, a development that has further stirred political activities in the state.

The Hikaya Newspaper reports that the defection was confirmed during a rally organized by the NDC at its headquarters in Old GRA, Katsina, on Monday, April 20, 2026. A large crowd of men and women gathered to show their support, describing the NDC as a solution to the challenges facing the people, especially in the areas of the economy, security, and education.

The State Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Aliyu Ilu Barde, welcomed the new members, saying their defection shows the growing strength of the party in challenging the APC. He accused APC leaders of failing to fulfill promises and lacking sincerity, stressing that the NDC would provide fair and honest leadership. He also said the party has plans to boost the economy, create jobs, and improve the lives of ordinary people.

The State Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Ishak Hussaini Suleiman, said the NDC leadership is made up of experienced and trustworthy individuals. He called on the public to unite in order to bring about positive change in leadership, while also praising the contributions of women and youths to the party.

The State Women Leader, Hajiya Maryam Aminu Mani, commended those who defected, noting that the NDC is built on strong principles. She urged women to register as full members of the party and expressed confidence that the party can win the 2027 elections.

Among those who defected, Shafi’u Suleiman Yandaki criticized the APC’s style of governance, saying it has not benefited the people. Similarly, Hajiya Daharatu Yar’adua said she left the APC due to dissatisfaction with its leadership, adding that she joined the NDC to contribute to positive change.

Earlier, Malam Isah Sani, who opened the event with prayers, asked God to grant the party success and unity. Also speaking, Malam Ibrahim Abubakar expressed his group’s support for the NDC, saying they hope the party will bring meaningful change to the people.
