Radda pledges stronger investment in agriculture

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has said his administration is investing its own resources to boost agricultural development while also building partnerships to achieve greater impact.

The governor made this known while receiving a delegation from the Islamic Development Bank, led by Dr. Masuda Saidova, during a working visit to the state. He described the visit as timely, noting that it supports the government’s plan to grow agriculture, create jobs, and reduce poverty.

Radda said the state is not only waiting for external support but is actively committing its own funds to improve the sector. He explained that agriculture remains the main source of livelihood for many people in the state, especially those living in rural areas.

He added that the government is helping farmers increase their income by improving storage and processing systems and reducing post-harvest losses. He also said the high cost of farming inputs is a challenge, and the state has been providing fertiliser to farmers at subsidised rates.

The governor further stated that efforts are being made to improve productivity through the use of quality seeds and extension services, with over 800 trained personnel supporting farmers across communities. He also noted that the state is investing in irrigation through tube wells and solar-powered pumps to support year-round farming.

In response, the Islamic Development Bank delegation commended the state’s efforts after visiting key project sites. The team pledged to support large-scale agricultural projects that will increase food production, create jobs, and improve the livelihoods of the people.
