Dr. Bala Nuhu Kankia has accepted calls from the people to contest for the Katsina State House of Assembly seat representing Kankia Local Government.
ATP Hausa reports indicate that as far back as 2022, people of Kankia had been urging him to run for the position. Some civil society groups even threatened legal action if he refused to respond to their call. At a press conference held at the time, community leaders described him as a man of integrity and trust, who is fit to represent the people.
The groups also stated that Bala Nuhu has been supporting the community in many areas, including helping women and youths, supporting education, healthcare, and caring for orphans. They said these efforts made them believe he is the right person to bring positive change.
However, during the 2023 elections, he stepped down following a consensus arrangement within the APC, allowing Hon. Salisu Hamza Rimaye to take the position. After the election, the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, appointed him as the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Agency for the Control of AIDS.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 22, 2026, Dr. Bala Nuhu Kankia confirmed that he has accepted the request of the people and has started consultations with key stakeholders to seek support and secure the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also declared his intention to run again for the seat, stating that he remains committed to bringing development and improving the lives of the people if given the opportunity.
