New NURTW Northwest Chairman Calls for Voter Card Renewal

The newly appointed Northwest Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Chairman of the Katsina State chapter, Alhaji Musa Garba Yandoma, has called on union members, drivers, and Nigerians at large to urgently register for, renew, or correct their voter cards in order to fully participate in the democratic process.

Alhaji Yandoma stressed that possessing a voter card gives citizens the power to choose credible leaders who will make decisions that affect their lives and communities. He noted that voter registration strengthens democracy, promotes accountability, and ensures that the interests of the people are properly represented. He also urged young Nigerians who have reached the age of 18 to take advantage of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registration exercise and become active stakeholders in governance.

He further explained that some citizens avoid registering due to challenges such as limited access to registration centres, especially in rural areas, complex registration procedures, insecurity, misinformation, or a lack of understanding of the registration process. However, he encouraged the public to overcome these obstacles and recognize the importance of voting as a key tool for building national development.

Speaking on the political direction of Katsina State, the NURTW leader reaffirmed his full support for Governor Dikko Umar Radda, commending the governor’s efforts in tackling insecurity, improving education, creating job opportunities for youths, and strengthening economic stability. He said ongoing road construction projects and the establishment of the Community Watch Corps have improved transportation and security, benefitting NURTW members and residents across the state. He also declared the union’s readiness to support the governor’s re-election bid in 2027.

Alhaji Musa Garba Yandoma made the remarks during a major event held in Kaduna on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, organised by the national leadership of the NURTW under its National President, Alhaji Dr. Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), to formally announce and confirm him as the new Northwest Chairman of the union.

Stakeholders of the union at the national, state, and local government levels expressed satisfaction and confidence in his emergence, praising his dedication, patience, and achievements while serving as Chairman of the Katsina State chapter. They described his track record as a clear justification for his new leadership role across the Northwest zone.

In an interview with Hikaya Newspaper shortly after the event, Alhaji Yandoma thanked Almighty Allah and expressed special appreciation to the National President, Alhaji Dr. Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), national stakeholders, zonal chairmen, state chairmen, and delegates who supported his election. He pledged to lead with integrity, unity, and commitment to protecting the interests of NURTW members across Northwest Nigeria.
