Army Chief Orders to Rescue Abducted Kebbi Schoolgirls

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA to step up efforts in rescuing students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the directive was issued on Monday, 17 November 2025, during the COAS’ operational tour of the state.

Addressing frontline commanders and soldiers, Gen. Shaibu instructed them to carry out intelligence-led operations and sustain aggressive day-and-night pursuit of the abductors. He emphasized that retrieving the students remains the military’s top priority, saying, “We must find these children. Act decisively and professionally on all intelligence. Success is not optional.”

The Army Chief also met with local vigilante groups and hunters, describing them as vital partners in the rescue mission. He encouraged them to use their deep knowledge of the terrain in close collaboration with troops to track down and neutralize criminal elements. According to him, “Together, we will restore peace and ensure children can attend school safely.”

Earlier in the visit, Gen. Shaibu paid condolence visits to the Traditional Ruler of Danko, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Allaje, and the Principal of GGCSS Maga, Hajiya Rabi Musa Magaji, reassuring them of the military’s firm commitment to securing the safe release of the abducted students.

Gen. Shaibu further urged troops to maintain resilience and professionalism, reminding them to operate strictly within the rules of engagement while remaining disciplined, vigilant, and determined to restore lasting peace to Kebbi State and neighbouring areas.
