Kano Recruits 4,315 Teachers, Expands Education Reforms

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the recruitment of 4,315 former BESDA volunteer teachers into permanent and pensionable service, in a move he described as part of his government’s commitment to rescue and reform the education sector.

The development builds on earlier approvals by the Yusuf-led administration, which absorbed 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025 from the BESDA voluntary teaching scheme. According to the Governor, this consistent investment is aimed at strengthening the teaching workforce across Kano State.

Governor Yusuf further announced the recruitment of an additional 2,616 teachers, the launch of a ₦200 million vehicle loan scheme, and the distribution of 444 motorcycles and 300 computers to support school monitoring and evaluation. He also directed the reopening of Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School with 180 pupils, the upgrade of a school in Ungogo into a boarding facility, and the engagement of 17,000 watchmen across schools in the state.

Highlighting the impact of these reforms, Governor Yusuf noted that Kano has already recorded historic progress, emerging as the best-performing state in the 2025 NECO examination. He stressed that his administration will continue to invest in education as a tool for human capital development and long-term prosperity.
