Tinubu Sets Up Committee for Buhari’s Funeral

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved the formation of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to plan and coordinate a state funeral for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the committee will be chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and is tasked with ensuring a befitting burial for the deceased elder statesman.

According to an official announcement, the committee comprises several high-ranking government officials, including the Ministers of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Defence, Information and National Orientation, Works, Interior, FCT, Housing and Urban Development, and Art, Culture and Creative Economy. Other members are the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, the National Security Adviser, the President’s Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination, the Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and the Chief of Defence Staff. The General Services Office (GSO), under the Office of the Permanent Secretary, will serve as the Committee’s Secretariat.

In a directive to honour the late President, President Tinubu has ordered all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers at their offices. This will allow the public to pay their final respects to the late leader who served Nigeria both as a military and democratic president.

Additionally, the government will open a central condolence register for members of the diplomatic community and the general public at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
