The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received letters of intent from 110 associations seeking to register as political parties in Nigeria.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that according to Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, the Commission is diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law and its Regulations and Guidelines.
The INEC Chairman disclosed this in a Press Release issued on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. He noted that all requests received so far have been acknowledged except six recent ones, which will be acknowledged before the end of the week. The Commission has also made available a handbook containing the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022 on its website.
The Commission is set to release the full list of the 110 associations seeking registration as political parties, including their proposed names, acronyms, addresses, and the names of their Chairmen and Secretaries. For transparency and public information, the list will be uploaded to the Commission’s website and social media platforms.
