Kano Online Chapel Holds Congress, Sets Agenda for Members

The Kano Online Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) recently held a congress with representatives from various media platforms. In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Abubakar A. Dangambo, appreciated the efforts of members towards the formation of the chapel and urged them to uphold ethical considerations in their reportage and dissemination of public interest stories.

The congress deliberated on key issues affecting the chapel, including the registration of new members and the running of the secretariat. Two reports, the Secretariat and Financial reports, were presented and adopted by the congress. After thorough deliberations, the congress resolved on several key decisions, including the approval of N25,000 as a registration fee for new members.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that Members were also encouraged to familiarize themselves with the NUJ constitution to understand their obligations, rights, and privileges.

In a communique issued at the end of the congress, the chapel called on the state government to consider rehabilitating community and rural roads ahead of the rainy season. The chapel also appealed to the state government to support farmers with inputs ahead of the rainy season to ensure a bumper harvest. These resolutions were drafted by a committee comprising Aliyu Mudi Sulaiman as Chairman, Salisu Kabuga as Secretary, and Sani Magaji Garko as member.

The congress provided a platform for members to discuss pressing issues affecting the chapel and the journalism profession in the state. The Chairman’s emphasis on ethical considerations in reportage underscores the chapel’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of journalism practice. The decisions reached during the congress are expected to strengthen the chapel’s operations and enhance the welfare of its members.

The Kano Online Chapel’s engagement with the state government on issues such as road rehabilitation and farm support highlights the critical role of the media in promoting community development and advocating for the welfare of citizens. As the chapel moves forward, its members are expected to work together to achieve their objectives and promote the interests of journalists in the state.
