Jibia LGA Chairman Accuses Politicians of Sabotaging Electricity Supply Efforts

The Chairman of Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, Hon. Sirajo Ado, has expressed concern over alleged sabotage by some politicians aimed at undermining his administration’s efforts to improve electricity supply in the area. Ado made this known during an interview with Hikaya Radio at his office last week.

Allegations of Sabotage:

According to Ado, some corrupt politicians are plotting to bring about a power outage in the local government area, which would undermine the new administration’s drive to develop electricity supply. He claimed that these individuals are spreading false information about the former government’s payment of electricity bills, alleging that they paid for six months or more.

Clarification on Electricity Bill Payment:

Ado clarified that the former government only paid the electricity bill for one month, and his administration has continued to pay the same amount to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO). He challenged anyone claiming to have paid the bill for a longer period to produce payment receipts as evidence.

Agreement with KEDCO:

Ado revealed that KEDCO assured him that electricity would be supplied to Jibia for 12 hours at night (6:00 pm to 6:00 am) and 7 hours during the day. However, since signing the agreement, there have been three days without power supply in the local government area, which Ado suspects is a result of sabotage.

Efforts to Improve Power Supply:

Despite the challenges, Ado’s administration has taken steps to repair two transformers in Yusuf Sulaiman Road and Daddara town, which are expected to cost ₦2,500,000. The administration has also set aside ₦60,000,000 as a contingency fund to improve power supply and repair damaged power distribution lines.

Commitment to Electricity Payment:

Ado’s administration has inherited the payment of ₦5,000,000 per month for electricity and has continued to make payments. However, even in the first month of payment, there were three days without electricity in Jibia Local Government Area, further fuelling suspicions of sabotage.
