Hon. Safana Emphasises Importance of LGA Chairmen’s Attendance at 2027 Budget Review

The Special Adviser on Local Government Inspectorate to the Governor of Katsina State, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana, has emphasised the importance of local government chairmen attending the review sessions for the 2027 local government budgets.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that Ten local government areas attended the sessions held on Tuesday, October 20, and Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in line with the scheduled timetable. The local governments that attended on Tuesday were Danja, Kafur, Malumfashi, Kankara, and Musawa, while Matazu, Baure, Mai’adua, Zango, and Sandamu attended on Wednesday.

Hon. Safana explained that the presence of local government chairmen at the sessions helps provide comprehensive information, clarify challenges relating to budgets and development projects, and enable them to respond directly to questions. He said their participation also promotes mutual understanding and speeds up the resolution of issues.

He further directed each local government to submit, within seven days, a list of completed projects for which payments are still outstanding. He stated that the information should be submitted through the Resident Inspector (R.I.) of each local government.

The sessions are part of the 2027 Local Government Budget Analysis Exercise, also known as the Pre-Budget Defence, which is being conducted in batches from October 19 to 27, 2026, under the leadership of the Office of the Director of Budget, Alhaji Babangida Aminu.

The exercise aims to ensure that local government budgets are accurate and credible before they are presented for defence before the Katsina State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Affairs.

Those in attendance included the Permanent Secretary of the Katsina State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Auditor-General for Local Governments, the Governor’s Adviser on Treasury Single Account (TSA) and revenue collection, local government chairmen, ministry directors, and other relevant officials.
