The Katsina State House of Assembly has held a public hearing on the state’s proposed 2027 budget.
The hearing was held on Monday, September 14, 2027, at the conference hall of the Katsina State House of Assembly and was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura. The hearing followed the second reading of the 2027 Appropriation Bill and the approval of a schedule for ministries, departments, agencies and other government bodies to present their budget details before the House. The schedule was presented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Budget, Hon. Lawal H. Yaro.
Speaking at the hearing, Hon. Lawal H. Yaro said the exercise provided citizens, civil society organisations and other stakeholders with an opportunity to present their views and recommendations on the proposed budget before the Assembly concludes its review and approval process. He also announced that budget defence sessions for government ministries, departments and agencies would commence on Tuesday, September 15.
During the hearing, members of the public and representatives of civil society organisations asked questions and made recommendations, seeking further clarification on the preparation of the 2027 budget and the implementation of the previous and current budgets. They also called for greater attention to the priority needs of citizens and development projects across the state.
The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abduljalal Haruna Runka, other members of the Assembly, members of the Katsina State Executive Council, representatives of government agencies and other stakeholders attended the hearing. The exercise provided participants with an opportunity to examine the proposed budget and make recommendations aimed at strengthening its focus on the key development needs of Katsina State.
