The Nura Khalil Foundation has organised a Maulud gathering in Katsina to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and promote religious awareness and community bonding.
The event, organised under the leadership of Hajiya Farida Muhammad Barau, wife of the PDP senatorial candidate for Funtua Senatorial District, Engr. Muhammad Nura Khalil, was held on Sunday, September 6, 2026, near the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina. Islamic scholars, religious singers and residents, including men and women from different parts of the state, attended the gathering.
Speaking with Hikaya Newspaper, Hajiya Farida said she organises the annual Maulud gathering to mark the arrival of Rabi’ul Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, in which Muslims commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). She said the gathering also provides an opportunity for Muslims to come together, reflect on the Prophet’s life and teachings, and strengthen religious and social ties.
Her husband, Engr. Muhammad Nura Khalil, commended Hajiya Farida for her leadership of the foundation and her commitment to humanitarian activities and community service. He described the Maulud gathering as an important occasion in Islamic tradition, saying it provides an opportunity for Muslims to learn about the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), promote good values and strengthen bonds among members of the community.
Muhammad Nura Khalil also said occasions of this nature could encourage Muslims to reflect on values such as peace, compassion, good character, mutual respect and care for others. He praised his wife for sustaining the annual programme and expressed support for initiatives aimed at promoting religious understanding and community solidarity.
Hajiya Zinatu Muhammad Barau, mother of Hajiya Farida, also commended the organisation of the Maulud gathering. She expressed her appreciation to the organisers and participants and prayed for the wellbeing and safe return of those who attended the event.
Islamic scholars who attended the gathering spoke about the origin and purpose of Maulud in Islam, while various religious singers performed Qasidas in praise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Their presentations formed part of the religious and educational activities at the gathering.
Participants, including men and women, expressed satisfaction with the event and called for its continuation in subsequent years. They also expressed hope that Hajiya Farida would expand the programme to other parts of Katsina State and neighbouring communities to further promote religious awareness, unity and peaceful relations.
