President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her historic election as the first elected female President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing her victory as a major milestone for Nigeria’s legal profession.
In a congratulatory message, the President said her emergence marks a significant achievement built on merit, excellence, integrity, and professionalism. He noted that her distinguished legal career and commitment to justice earned her the confidence and support of lawyers across the country.
Tinubu said the election reflects the growing recognition of the important role women play in nation-building and the administration of justice. He expressed confidence that Badejo-Okusanya’s leadership would strengthen the legal profession by promoting the rule of law, supporting judicial reforms, and improving access to justice for all Nigerians.
The President also urged the incoming NBA President to work closely with all stakeholders, including members of the Bar, the Bench, and relevant institutions, to advance judicial reforms, safeguard the Constitution, and reinforce the legal profession’s role in sustaining Nigeria’s democracy. He further encouraged her to unite members of the association by reaching out to the other contestants and addressing issues that emerged during the election.

As the first elected female president of the Association of Lawyers in Nigeria, Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya has made history. She has once again shown that our women can attain any heights in pursuit of excellence in their careers and ambitions, both in the private sector and in public service,” the President said. He wished her a successful tenure and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the Nigerian Bar Association to deepen democratic governance, promote justice, and build a more prosperous and united Nigeria.
