The Nura Khalil Foundation has announced a free women empowerment programme that aims to train more than 20,000 women across the 11 local government areas of Funtua Zone in Katsina State.
Hikaya Newspaper report that the initiative, known as the Nura Khalil Women Empowerment Initiative, is being coordinated under the leadership of Hajiya Farida Muhammad Barau. According to the organisers, participants will receive free vocational training as well as support to help them start small businesses after completing the programme. Registration for interested women has already begun.
The foundation said beneficiaries will be drawn from Bakori, Dandume, Danja, Faskari, Funtua, Kafur, Kankara, Malumfashi, Matazu, Musawa, and Sabuwa local government areas. The training will cover poultry farming, shoe and bag making, beauty and skincare, hairdressing, perfume production, soap making, catering, and home decoration.
Organisers explained that the programme is designed to strengthen women’s economic participation, promote self-reliance, and contribute to poverty reduction within communities. Women interested in participating were encouraged to register through the contact numbers provided by the foundation for further information.
The foundation stated that the empowerment programme is being promoted alongside Engineer Muhammad Nura Khalil, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for the Funtua Zone Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general election. The announcement described the initiative as part of efforts to expand opportunities for women and improve livelihoods across the zone.
