President Tinubu approves a new campus of the NPA to expand police training

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Ogun State, as part of efforts to expand police training in the country.

The new campus will be located in Yewa South Local Government Area and will receive a take-off grant of N15 billion. The approval follows the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which allows the expansion of the academy beyond its main campus in Wudil.

According to the presidency, the fund will come from the 2026 allocation of TetFund. It will be used to build key facilities such as classrooms, student hostels, and training equipment needed for effective police education.

The decision to site the campus in Erinja was reached after a high-level meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, the Inspector-General of Police, and officials from the National Universities Commission and the Federal Ministry of Education.

President Tinubu said the expansion will improve police training, support ongoing recruitment, and strengthen national security across Nigeria.
