Plateau Govt Commissions Solar-Powered Water Project

To address the long-standing problem of water scarcity in Tudun Wada, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has commissioned a solar-powered water supply project in Mado community.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the commissioning ceremony drew top government officials, community leaders, and residents who expressed delight over the development.

Represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, Hon. Bashir Datti Lawadi, the governor emphasized the importance of the project, revealing that over ₦200 million was allocated for its execution. He lamented how residents had relied on unsafe water sources, particularly during the dry season, assuring the people that such hardship had now come to an end.

Technical Adviser on Water Resources, Dr. Jurbe Godep, described the project as a pilot initiative carefully designed over several months in collaboration with experts, noting that contractors were thoroughly vetted, even internationally. Similarly, the General Manager of PLMWASSA, Engr. Jelkyes Dakat, said the project signified the people’s confidence in government and commended Governor Mutfwang’s determination to drive lasting change.

Managing Director of Verde Environmental Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Paul van der Vaart, described the intervention as one anchored on dignity, health, and life, stressing that access to clean water is a fundamental right. The District Head of Tudun Wada, Ada Peter Nyam (JP), and the Mado Community Leader, Mr. Ambrose Gurumwan, both expressed gratitude to the government while recalling the struggles of the past caused by water scarcity.

Also speaking, the women leader of the community, Mrs. Josephine Godwin Asoloko, narrated the hardship women had faced for years in fetching water, stating that the project stands as a testimony to Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to health, sustainable living, and community development in Plateau State. She added that the initiative is not just about water, but a bridge to better living conditions for the people.
