Tinubu Vanguard for 2027 has raised alarm over what it described as a multi-million naira smear campaign targeting the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Usman.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the group alleged that certain individuals have sponsored coordinated media attacks to discredit both the chairman and the commission ahead of the 2026 Hajj operations.
In a statement on Tuesday, the president of the group, Bisola Abdulkadir, said the campaign was politically motivated and aimed at disrupting NAHCON’s preparations. She warned that the plot was ultimately directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, seeking to stir negative sentiment in the North by forcing the removal of the commission’s leadership.
“We have credible information that millions of naira have been injected into this campaign to malign the chairman,” Abdulkadir said. “We urge the public to disregard these politically motivated distractions. What the commission needs now is support, not attacks. Such behavior, designed to frustrate hardworking public officials for selfish interests, is unacceptable.”
The group called on security agencies to investigate the matter and hold the sponsors accountable. It further commended President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their continued support to NAHCON, noting that the administration has demonstrated strong commitment to ensuring smooth and transparent hajj operations.
