The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major successes in separate high-profile cases of human trafficking and kidnapping, reaffirming its commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the country.
On 30 July 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, on routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, arrested a suspected human trafficker, 30-year-old Raymond Sunday Wonna, and rescued two young female victims, 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley. Investigations revealed they were lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the false promise of jobs in Ghana, and lodged in a hotel where the suspect allegedly attempted to sexually assault them.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the police intervention ensured their safe return to their families, while efforts continue to track other members of the trafficking network.
In another operation, on 13 August 2025 at about 10:00 a.m., operatives of the Taraba State Police Command, working with local security outfits, stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA and arrested two suspected kidnappers, 20-year-old Yahaya Umar and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar, in possession of an AK-47 rifle.
The suspects confessed to being part of a gang behind multiple attacks in Plateau and Taraba States. Police investigations are ongoing to capture other gang members and dismantle their network.
Commending the operatives, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun assured Nigerians of the Force’s continued vigilance and commitment to public safety. He directed a thorough investigation to ensure all culprits are prosecuted, stressing the importance of community cooperation, intelligence-led policing, and swift law enforcement.
