Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued three kidnapped women and foiled a planned terrorist attack during separate operations in Zamfara and Sokoto states.
The successful operations were carried out by troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and improve security across the region. The operations also led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, military items, and other materials linked to criminal activities.
On June 22, 2026, troops on a routine offensive patrol at Bagega in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State rescued three female kidnap victims who had been abandoned by terrorists due to sustained military pressure. The victims were identified as 28-year-old Zainab Muhammadu from Gara Zaima Village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, 20-year-old Hafsat Ibrahim, and 17-year-old Halira Usman, both from Mashiga/Taka Lafiya Village in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Military authorities said the victims had spent about three months in captivity before regaining their freedom. They were immediately evacuated for medical examination and appropriate treatment following their rescue.
In a separate operation on June 23, 2026, troops of the 8 Division Garrison under Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, acting on credible intelligence, laid an ambush at Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The troops targeted a group of terrorists reportedly moving to carry out attacks in the area.
Upon sighting the troops, the terrorists came under heavy fire and fled the scene, abandoning their mission. Troops recovered a PKT machine gun, ammunition, two motorcycles, chains believed to have been used to restrain kidnapped victims, and other operational items left behind by the fleeing suspects.
Military authorities said the operations demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led missions and the determination of troops to deny terrorists freedom of movement. They added that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue sustained operations against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements until lasting peace and security are restored across the North-West region.
