SDP Mobilises Supporters Ahead of 2027 Elections in Katsina

The Katsina State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has begun a tour of the state’s three senatorial zones to mobilise its leaders and stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.

Hikaya Newspaper reports that the tour covers the Funtua Senatorial Zone, which comprises 11 local government areas, the Katsina Zone with 11 local government areas, and the Daura Zone with 12 local government areas. Party leaders held meetings with stakeholders across the zones to discuss strategies for strengthening the party and preparing for the forthcoming elections, in which the SDP hopes to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Katsina State SDP Chairman, Alhaji Bello Adamu Safana, urged party leaders and members to uphold honesty, integrity, and strong principles in their political activities. He said that, in his view, a lack of honesty and accountability contributes to poor leadership and slows national development. He called on the party to distinguish itself by taking these values seriously.

Safana also appealed to the people of Katsina State to support candidates nominated by the SDP in the 2027 elections. He said the party aims to provide leadership focused on community development and encouraged members to work together to achieve its objectives.

The SDP governorship candidate in Katsina State, Dr. Magaji Aliyu Dansarai, mni, called on the public to support efforts to replace the APC-led government in the 2027 elections. He accused the incumbent administration of failing to address some of the challenges facing residents, including the rising cost of living and other economic difficulties.

Dansarai also warned against the possible use of money to influence voters on election day. He advised voters that if anyone offered them money, they could accept it but should cast their votes for the candidates they genuinely supported. His remarks emphasised the importance of electoral freedom and allowing voters to make their own decisions without pressure or undue influence.

The SDP leaders met with stakeholders in the Funtua Senatorial Zone on Saturday, October 10, 2026, followed by a meeting with stakeholders in the Katsina Zone on Sunday, October 11. The visit to the Daura Zone took place on Monday, October 12, 2026, completing the tour of the state’s three senatorial zones.

Among the SDP officials who participated in the tour were the state party secretary, Jibrin Bala Umar, and the Publicity Secretary, Abdulrazak Ahmad Jibia, alongside other party stakeholders. The tour is part of the SDP’s efforts to strengthen its organisation and promote unity among its members ahead of the 2027 elections.
