Kwankwaso denies decision on political future

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said no final decision has been taken about his political future amid reports of possible changes within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Kwankwaso made this known in a statement, where he described ongoing public discussions about his next political move as misleading. He said neither he nor his political associates have taken any definite position regarding a new political alignment.

He explained that the recent Supreme Court judgment, which recognised the leadership of David Mark, also returned the matter to the High Court, leaving the party in an uncertain situation. He added that a Federal High Court ruling had also questioned the legitimacy of the party’s recent convention, while the Attorney General of the Federation has applied for the party’s deregistration.

Kwankwaso recalled that his group left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) due to legal challenges, and said the ADC is now facing similar problems. He noted that he and other stakeholders have started consultations with leaders of other parties, including the NDC and PRP, to decide the best way forward.

On the issue of the presidency, Kwankwaso said he has not declared interest in contesting and has not endorsed any aspirant. He stressed that the ADC has not yet decided on zoning or candidates, adding that all claims about his ambition are not true.

He also explained that his absence from recent ADC meetings was due to personal reasons, which he had already communicated to the party. Kwankwaso assured that any final decision on his political direction will be made public through official channels at the right time.
