European-American University has disowned a purported convocation ceremony allegedly held on Friday at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, describing it as fraudulent and unauthorized.
Hikaya Newspaper reports that the institution said it neither organized nor approved any event in Nigeria, contrary to reports published in sections of the Nigerian press.
In a statement, the University clarified that it did not confer any honorary doctorate degrees on Dauda Kahutu Rarara, Alhaji Ahmed Saleh Jnr., Mustapha Abdullahi Bujawa, or Tarela Boroh. It added that all legitimate graduates are listed in its official Register of Graduates, stressing that the named individuals have no valid connection with the institution. The University also dismissed claims linking Musari Audu Isyaku and Idris Aliyu as its representatives, insisting they lacked any authority to act on its behalf.
The University disclosed that Aliyu, once appointed a Fellow with professorial status in Financial Management in 2024, has had his appointment revoked immediately for his role in the fraudulent activity. It further emphasized that the institution is duly established in France as a nonprofit higher education body and also holds a Royal Charter of Incorporation from the Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara in Uganda, dismissing media claims of operations in Dominica and Panama as outdated and misleading.
European-American University vowed to liaise with Nigerian authorities to investigate and prosecute those behind the fake convocation and the issuance of counterfeit certificates. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and credibility, warning the public against falling victim to impersonators misusing the University’s name.
